Chelmsford Pub Named Best in Country Posted On 10 September 2021

The Galvin Green Man in Chelmsford has been named the best pub in England, following the results of the National Pub and Bar Awards 2021

The pub had just previously been named as the best pub in the county of Essex, before it was then revealed that it had in fact, come out victorious overall in the National Awards.

This pub forms part of a collection of restaurants, founded by Essex-born brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin in 2005. Following the reception of the award, they were thankful for the recognition, but were quick to show gratitude towards their staff, with Chris, one half of the pair, saying, ‘To come through the last year and a half and be recognised like this is fantastic. Everyone’s a winner here, but I’m particularly proud of our head chef Chris Ball, and general manager Katie MacKay who runs a really tight ship. It’s all about looking after our locals and anyone that visits’.

It is clear to see why the pub and restaurant is so popular, with customer reviews on ‘The Fork’ (A TripAdvisor company), awarding the establishment an impressive 9.3 (out of 10)  average review. The pub also features in the Michelin Guide selection 2021. Customers can choose from a variety of menus when visiting the pub, including a separate pub and restaurant menu, a Gourmand menu, and a specific Sunday menu.

It’s not just the food and drink which is to be applauded though, as the location of the venue is something to behold, situated within a building dating back to 1341, in the heart of the Essex countryside. As well as the pub area, there is also a section of the venue dedicated to the restaurant, and an extensive garden.

Chris concluded by thanking some of the other key components of the pub. He said, ‘We try our best day in, day out. It’s important to mention our suppliers, who have been on the same difficult journey and often get forgotten. They redoubled their efforts when we reopened’.
